New Documentary on Assisted Suicide

Today's New York Times reviews the French film, “Exit: The Right to Die,” by Fernand Melgar. The "grim" documentary is about assisted suicide, and focuses on the Swiss organization Exit A.D.M.D., which helps terminally ill patients end their own lives. I have not seen the film, but the review does not mention anything about another Swiss organization, Dignitas, which is open to non-residents. The would be worth seeing if it does reveal, as the review indicates, the enormous psychic costs to those who escort the dying.

For those in New York, the movie will have a 2-week run, October 25–November 7, at Film Forum, W. Houston St. (W. of 6th Avenue), with screenings daily at 1:00, 2:50, 4:40, 6:20, 8:00 and 10:00. More information.

FRIF (First Run Icarus Films) published another review.
Powerful and poignant! EXIT confronts the viewer, head-on, with their own mortality/ [It] will touch that inner, primal aspect that brings about an uneasiness. Take an extra deep breath; swallow just a bit harder. The film is produced in a sensitive and caring way... the camera work is excellent and well suited to the subject matter. a landmark reference in the humanitarian fight for individual human rights, self-determination and self-deliverance.
